The Community prepares a rural road in Ojós to preserve the traditional vegetable garden and recover the landscape (28/05/2019)

The regional government has prepared the rural road of La Siberia, in Ojós, in order to preserve the traditional garden, recover the landscape and improve access to the lands of more than 40 families.

This work, which has a length of 700 meters, has involved an investment of more than 368,000 euros.

The Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries acting, Miguel Angel del Amor, visited the road today and explained that "the difficulty of access to the road, coupled with that gives entry to smallholdings, has contributed to this area is in a state of abandonment and as a consequence the characteristic landscape of the surroundings has been altered, this action aims to reverse this situation and will suppose an additional security in front of fires since this zone is classified as high risk ".

Also, he added, "the town will have a new access to the public forest, which will offer tourism more routes and trails."

The works consist of the execution of the necessary earthworks, the provision of drainage systems and the construction of various retaining walls of the land.

In addition, the installation of geogrids and geomatics will be carried out as containment elements along the entire road, the construction of a firm base of artificial gravel and double layer of gravel, and revegetation of the slopes.

The Siberia road runs through land on the left bank of the Segura River and serves the agricultural plots on both sides of its path.

Due to the orography of the place, the crops are located in narrow terraced parcels protected by stone walls.

The Community will invest more than 7.1 million euros in 2019 in the preparation of 108 kilometers on 38 rural roads of the Regón.

These grants are part of the Rural Development Program of the Region of Murcia (PDR) 2014-2020, financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (Feader) with 63 percent, by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries and Food with 11.10 percent and by the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia with 25.90 percent.

Evacuation of rainwater and sanitation collector

The counselor also visited in the same municipality the work of rain evacuation in the vicinity of the municipal pool.

To this end, 1,600 square meters of street were upgraded, improving the slopes and the evacuation system in order to direct the rainwater to the river.

This action improves the access of a hundred neighbors who were affected on rainy days.

Del Amor checked the works of the sanitation collector on Santiago Street where a 30-meter-long and 315-millimeter diameter sanitation branch was built, and stressed that "the water collected in the new collector will go to the Water Treatment Plant Residuals (Edar) of Archena where a second life will be given for irrigation. "

To carry out these works, the regional government made an investment of 36,505 euros.
